| > Dragon Wings > Dragon Wings Modern Jet Fighter Aircraft | Dragon Wings 1/72 USN F/A-18F Super Hornet VFA-11 Red Ripper Diecast Aircraft Model (50298) VFA-11, the “Red Rippers”, is a fighter squadron of the U.S. Navy that operates the F/A-18F Super Hornet. The squadron was originally established in 1927 and it served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It has come a long way from the McDonnell F2H Banshee, the unit’s first jet-engine aircraft, for it now operates the Super Hornet. VF-11 began transitioning to the F/A-18 after its return from a deployment to Iraq with its F-14 Tomcats in 2004. Dragon Warbirds has released a fine new replica of an F/A-18F, the two-seat variant of the Super Hornet. The fighter entered service in 1999 but Dragon ensures this model is well up to 2007 standards. The form of the plane is accurately captured and all its sleek details are present. The colourful markings are beautifully pad painted in situ, including the logo and call sign on the tail that were carried over from the F-14s of the “Red Rippers”.
