 more | Corgi 1/50 Burrell Showmans Anderton and Rowlands G T Tuby & Sons Grand Scenic Railway ex Mayor (CC20508) The Ex Mayor modelled here was built in 1925 for the amusement caterer GT Tuby & Sons of Doncaster. The engine was of a special design and was the only one built as a 10nhp Special Scenic Showmans Road Locomotive. It was purchased to haul and power the Scenic Railway that Tuby's travelled. However, the ride was sold just prior to the engine arriving so it spent its working life driving the dodgems. Its driver Frank Cheffins saved the engine from the scrap yard in the 1940s and sold it on. It passed through several owners including the Rt Hon. Sir William McAlpine where it took pride of place amongst his fine collection of steam and vintage exhibits. It now resides with the Saunders Collection in Bedfordshire and is exhibited all over the UK and in Europe. | |

Whitelegg's fun fair, founded by Thomas and Rosins Whitelegg in the 1920s and together with their three sons and two daughters, built up one of the most prominent amusement caterers of the twentieth century. Over the ensuing years they amassed such a vast amount of equipment that they travelled to events such as the Tavistock Goose fair in two sections. Whitelegg owned several Burrell Showmans road locomotives to haul and power their various rides including: King of the Belgians, Dreadnought and also a Fowler Queen Mary (scrapped in 1946).more.. | |
