Based on the A-1H Skyraiders flying from USS Intrepid in October 1966.

The A-1 Skyraider originated as a carrier based torpedo and dive bomber, deliveries commencing in November 1946. The primary mission was close air support and the sircraft had great success in Korea and Vietnam.

On October 9, 1966 four A-1H Skyraiders from VA-176 aboard USS Intrepid were sent on a mission deep inside North Vietnam, encountering four Mig-17s. Using tree top maneuvers and their agility, the Skyraiders managed to damaged two of the opposition and then Lt. W. Patton got into a good position and used the last of his ammunition to down a Mig. Great work for a venerable piston aircraft with a maximum sppeed of 342 mph.
